Playing your part in the team and doing it well

One of the great joys of this year was to discover a talk given by a famous bloke called John Chrsytosom reflecting on Paul's words to Timothy. It is all the more powerful because
--the pep talk  was written down nearly 2 thousand years ago,
--and because it has been used by coaches every week since
--and because it is still as relevant as it was in the year about 379 when it was written ( translated from the Greek below some decades ago so the English is a bit stilted )

More on that old man in the ruck of the all Australian team HERE

The good fight”! There is no worthier than this contest. This crown is without end. This is not of olive leaves. It has not a human umpire. It has not men for spectators. The theater is crowded with Angels. There men labor many days, and suffer hardships, and for one hour they receive the crown, and immediately all the pleasure passes away. But here far otherwise, it continues for ever in brightness, glory, and honor.
It is truly a good fight, not only delighting, but benefiting the spectator: and the race does not end in nothing. It is not a mere display of strength and of rivalry. It draws all up to heaven.

And he goes on to describe how, like a bird,  Paul surveys the whole wide field in which he played and can therefore say great game , great opportunity and wonderful God . Join in if you haven't already - Its free !
